
Phil Welch, from Fort Collins, Colorado, has accepted an offer to kick for the University of Wisconsin. Welch, who is regarded as one of the best in the country, considered a number of schools, including the Colorado schools and just about everybody in the Rockies before settlling on the Badgers.
Welch has excellelnt size, measuring up at 6-3 and 185 pounds. He has, reportedly, run the forty-yard dash in 4.7 seconds.
Welch set new standards for Colorado prep football by scoring 106 points and kicking nineteen field goals this season. His longest was 56 yards and he had seven over forty yards. He also made 49 of 52 points after touchdowns, three were blocked because of other problems on the special team.
Thirty-five career field goals is tied for the second best in Colorado history. His total of 227 kicking points is the third- best in state history.
Wisconsin, a school which prides itself on its kicking program, is known to bbe ecstatic about the fact that 85 percent of his kickoffs go into the end zone.
Phil Welch is regarded as a terrific catch by the Badgers. Welch is the twentieth player to pledge Wisconsin this year.
